Online Chess Coaching in India — Structured, Not Spectacular

Most online chess platforms in India sell hours. We sell progress. There is a difference, and it shows in how a student looks at the board after twelve weeks.

ChessPure runs one of India's longest-standing online chess academies. Our students live in Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, Delhi-NCR, the Gulf, and across small-town India where there is no rated coach within driving distance. Lessons run on Zoom, homework arrives by email, and tournaments are played online and offline.

Why online doesn't mean less structured

Plenty of academies discovered online lessons during the pandemic and never rebuilt their pedagogy around them. Ours was online-first by 2021 — we use the screen as a teaching surface, not a sad substitute for a board. Coaches share annotated PGNs after every session, run live tactics drills with shared mouse control, and review your last three online games before each lesson.

Internet across India is uneven; our delivery accounts for that. If your child's session drops connection in a Tier-3 city, the coach reschedules the missed minutes — they do not move on. Every session is recorded, so parents can watch what was actually taught, not what was claimed.

  • FIDE-rated coaches, ratings publishable on fide.com
  • Stappenmethode workbooks shipped to your home in Volume I and II
  • Daily puzzle calendar synced to your weakest motif
  • Internal rated tournaments held monthly, online and free for enrolled students

What's included in an online enrollment

Weekly one-on-one or small-group sessions with a FIDE-rated coach. Written homework after every class. Access to our recorded lesson library and tactics archive. A monthly written progress note for the parent — one paragraph, no charts, no jargon. Tournament-prep modules included once you cross 1200.

We deliberately do not bundle ten students into a Zoom and call it group coaching. Our small groups cap at four students, and there is a placement call before we add anyone to one. The coach should be able to call on every child by name within two lessons. That is the standard.

Who this is for

Children ages six and up who have outgrown casual play. Adult improvers who hit a rating wall and want a serious coach. Parents in cities without a credible local academy who do not want to settle for unstructured YouTube practice. Tournament players targeting their first FIDE rating or their next title norm.

Honest disclaimer: if a parent is looking for daily two-hour drilling and a guaranteed 1500 rating in six months, we are not the right academy. The students who improve fastest with us are the ones whose families respect the pace.

How to start from anywhere in India

Book a free trial through the admissions page. We will need a usable internet connection, a quiet half-hour, and the student in front of the screen — that is all. The trial is conducted in English; coaches are also comfortable in Hindi for younger students.

Payments are in INR, billed monthly or quarterly. There is no joining fee. If you decide to stop, you stop — there is no lock-in contract. We have not needed one in fifteen years and we do not plan to introduce one now.

Frequently asked

Is online chess coaching as effective as in-person?
For ages eight and up, yes — provided the academy treats online as the primary medium. Coaches who teach from a webcam aimed at a physical board often lose the student. We teach from a digital board with shared mouse control, which keeps the student engaged and lets the coach annotate live.
Do you teach across timezones inside India?
Yes. We schedule across IST, and we have students in the Gulf region who attend evening sessions that align with their school timings. Coach availability is widest between 4 PM and 9 PM IST.
What if my child has never played a tournament?
Our internal online tournaments are designed for first-timers. Volume I students play their first rated game by week eight. We submit results to FIDE only when the student crosses Volume II.
How is this priced compared with other online academies?
Our pricing is in INR and competitive with mid-tier Indian academies. We are not the cheapest — small-group caps and FIDE-rated coaches cost more. Contact admissions for current rates; quarterly and annual plans carry a discount.
